Tips for Fall Cleaning

It’s that time of year again. It’s time to clear the dust from the corners, switch over to all of your warmer things, and prepare for that brisk inevitability we like to call winter. Before the cold sets in and leeches the warmth straight out of your windows, it’s a good idea to take a few preparatory steps to ensure your winter is one of peace and comfort. To help you out with this worthy endeavour, we’ve put together a short list of things you can do to make the most of your fall cleaning.

Start with the Kitchen and Bathroom

We recommend starting with your kitchen’s major appliances like the fridge and dishwasher. You can organize and sterilize your primary cold food storage by taking out all of its contents and giving everything inside a thorough scrubbing, getting rid of any stains in the process. You can also take this time to throw away any food items that may have expired.

But let’s not forget about the dishwasher either. Fall is a great time to wipe down the inside of this workhorse of a machine. Although it is an appliance inside which cleaning occurs, it still builds up residue over time. Its once-a-year cleaning is best done before the arrival of winter to avoid extra caking as a result of residual cold.

In addition to this appliance attention, you can also wash the floors, scrub any plastic surfaces, and disinfect all the waste bins.

Then Move on to the Living Areas

Within the environs of your favourite relaxation zones, you’ll want to apply your careful touch of cleanliness as well. Your first step is to bust out the vacuum cleaner and set it upon all of your upholstered furniture and un-upholstered furniture cushions. This will help to get up all the hairs and dust that has settled there over the summer.

Next you can polish all your wood furniture to help restore its vibrant sheen and keep it shiny all winter long. You can even move on to dusting any exposed surfaces in your house to prevent dust build-up from further congesting any sinuses that may already be suffering from a winter cold.

Finally, if you have any artificial plants in the house, you can wipe those down too so that their lush appearance remains nature’s constant reminder all winter long.

And Finally, take it to the Bedroom

It’s important to take extra special care of the rooms in your house that provide your family with the most serene sense of comfort. In every sleeping quarter, we recommend flipping and vacuuming all of the mattresses. This will help keep them clean and fresh all winter, and it will also have them smelling fresher, longer.

This is also the best time to put on all the cold-weather linens you’ll want to keep you and your loved ones warm and cosy throughout the coldest months. You can even take the opportunity to put away your summer clothes and bring out your winter apparel.
